  1  1    Section 1.  Section 468.127, unnumbered paragraph 2, Code
  1  2 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    If the board deems that the costs of the repairs or
  1  4 improvements will create assessments against the lands in the
  1  5 district greater than should be borne in one year, it may levy
  1  6 the same at one time and provide for the payment of said costs
  1  7 and assessments in the manner provided in sections 468.57
  1  8 through 468.61; provided that assessments may be collected in
  1  9 less not more than ten twenty installments as the board may
  1 10 determine.  
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12    The bill amends Code chapter 468 which provides for
  1 13 drainage districts.  Code section 468.127 provides that
  1 14 drainage repairs and improvement may be financed by an
  1 15 assessment payable by landowners over a number of years.  The
  1 16 assessments must be collected in fewer than 10 installments.
  1 17 This bill provides that the installments may be collected in
  1 18 not more than 20 installments.
