1 1 Section 1. Section 89.3, Code 1997, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection and renumbering the subsequent
1 3 subsections:
1 4 NEW SUBSECTION. 10. Internal inspections of unfired steam
1 5 pressure vessels operating in excess of fifteen pounds per
1 6 square inch shall be conducted once every two years. External
1 7 inspections shall be conducted annually. An internal
1 8 inspection of an unfired steam pressure vessel may be required
1 9 at any time by the commissioner upon the observation by an
1 10 inspector of conditions, enumerated by the commissioner
1 11 through rules, warranting an internal inspection.
1 12 Sec. 2. REPEAL. 1996 Iowa Acts, chapter 1149, section 2,
1 13 is repealed effective December 31, 1997.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill provides that internal inspections of unfired
1 16 steam pressure vessels shall be conducted once every two years
1 17 and external inspections every year. The bill also provides
1 18 that the industrial commissioner can require an internal
1 19 inspection at any time if an inspector observes conditions
1 20 warranting such inspection. The bill provides that the
1 21 commissioner shall adopt rules enumerating the applicable
1 22 conditions.
1 23 The bill also repeals, effective December 31, 1997, a
1 24 temporary provision of law which provided for the inspection
1 25 intervals of certain unfired steam pressure vessels
1 26 manufactured on or after January 1, 1994.
