1 2 BY CORBETT, LARSON, THOMSON, CHAPMAN,
1 3 FOEGE, AND TAYLOR
1 4 A House Resolution recognizing the accomplishments
1 5 of the Cedar Rapids Junior League related to the
1 6 Madge Phillips Community Center.
1 7 WHEREAS, the Cedar Rapids Junior League believes
1 8 that all families are entitled to a safe, secure home
1 9 environment; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the Cedar Rapids Junior League determined
1 11 that Cedar Rapids was the only major city in the State
1 12 of Iowa without a 24-hour comprehensive shelter for
1 13 homeless women and children; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the Cedar Rapids Junior League conducted a
1 15 $1.6 million capital campaign to fund the construction
1 16 and a portion of the three-year operating expenses for
1 17 a 24-hour comprehensive shelter for homeless women and
1 18 children, called the Madge Phillips Community Center;
1 19 and
1 20 WHEREAS, the Madge Phillips Community Center is a
1 21 joint venture between the Cedar Rapids Junior League
1 22 and the Young Women's Christian Association of Cedar
1 23 Rapids; and
1 24 WHEREAS, the Cedar Rapids Junior League has been
1 25 involved in the programming and educational
1 26 opportunities at the Madge Phillips Community Center;
1 27 and
1 28 WHEREAS, the Cedar Rapids Junior League has
1 29 provided over 2,000 volunteer hours at the Madge
1 30 Phillips Community Center; and
2 1 WHEREAS, the Cedar Rapids Junior League received
2 2 the Bavarian Motor Works/Association of Junior League
2 3 International Community Impact Grand Award in
2 4 recognition of the League's efforts in building and
2 5 operating the Madge Phillips Community Center; NOW
2 6 THEREFORE,
2 7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 8 That the Iowa House of Representatives recognizes and
2 9 congratulates the Cedar Rapids Junior League for the
2 10 League's efforts on behalf of homeless women and
2 11 children in Cedar Rapids and for receiving the
2 12 Bavarian Motor Works/Association of Junior League
2 13 International Community Impact Grand Award in
2 14 recognition of the efforts of the Cedar Rapids Junior
2 15 League in building and operating the Madge Phillips
2 16 Community Center.
