  1  0 PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF
  1  0    IOWA RELATING TO THE EQUALITY OF RIGHTS OF MEN AND WOMEN
  1  0    UNDER THE LAW.

  1  0 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  The following amendment to the Constitution of
  1  2 the State of Iowa is proposed.
  1  3    Section 1 of Article I of the Constitution of the State of
  1  4 Iowa, is amended to read as follows:
  1  5    RIGHTS OF PERSONS.  Section 1.  All men and women are, by
  1  6 nature, free and equal, and have certain inalienable rights -
  1  7 among which are those of enjoying and defending life and
  1  8 liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and
  1  9 pursuing and obtaining safety and happiness.
  1 10    Sec. 2.  The foregoing proposed amendment, having been
  1 11 adopted and agreed to by the Seventy-sixth General Assembly,
  1 12 1995 Session, thereafter duly published, and now adopted and
  1 13 agreed to by the Seventy-seventh General Assembly in this
  1 14 joint resolution, shall be submitted to the people of the
  1 15 State of Iowa at the general election in November of the year
  1 16 nineteen hundred ninety-eight in the manner required by the
  1 17 Constitution of the State of Iowa and the laws of the State of
  1 18 Iowa.
