PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 295.4, subsection 1, Code 1997, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. School districts, as defined in section 295.2, 1 4 subsection 8, shall expend funds received pursuant to section 1 5 295.2 forthe acquisition,either or both of the following: 1 6 a. Acquisition, lease, lease-purchase, installation, and 1 7 maintenance of instructional technology equipment, including 1 8 hardware and software, materials and supplies related to 1 9 instructional technology, and staff development and training 1 10 related to instructional technology, and. 1 11 b. School building repair, school building improvement, or 1 12 new school building construction. 1 13 School districts shall establish priorities for the use of 1 14 the funds.However, fundsFunds received by a school district 1 15 pursuant to section 295.2 shall not be expended to add a full- 1 16 time equivalent position or otherwise increase staffing. 1 17 EXPLANATION 1 18 This bill permits school districts to expend moneys 1 19 received under the school improvement technology program for 1 20 purposes of school building repair, school building 1 21 improvement, or new school building construction. 1 22 Annually, until June 30, 2001, moneys are appropriated from 1 23 the state general fund for purposes of the school improvement 1 24 technology program. The moneys are allocated to school 1 25 districts and area education agencies by the state department 1 26 of education. Currently, school districts can use the moneys 1 27 received under the program only for the acquisition, lease, 1 28 lease-purchase, installation, and maintenance of instructional 1 29 technology equipment. Under the bill, school districts may 1 30 use the moneys for instructional technology or infrastructure 1 31 needs, or both. 1 32 LSB 3099YH 77 1 33 kh/sc/14
