1 1 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph j,
1 2 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 1997, is amended to read as
1 3 follows:
1 4 One unit of health education which shall include personal
1 5 health; food and nutrition; environmental health; safety and
1 6 survival skills; cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures;
1 7 consumer health; family life; human growth and development;
1 8 substance abuse and nonuse; emotional and social health;
1 9 health resources; and prevention and control of disease,
1 10 including sexually transmitted diseases and acquired immune
1 11 deficiency syndrome.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill requires the minimum program for health education
1 14 of students in grades nine through 12 to include
1 15 cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures.
1 16 The bill amends Code section 256.11, which provides for
1 17 educational standards and minimum educational program
1 18 requirements.
