1 1 Section 1. Section 321.34, subsection 8A, unnumbered
1 2 paragraph 2, Code Supplement 1997, is amended to read as
1 3 follows:
1 4 The surviving spouse of a person who was issued special
1 5 plates under this subsection may continue to use or apply for
1 6 and use the special plates subject to registration of the
1 7 special plates in the surviving spouse's name and upon payment
1 8 of the annual registration fee. If the surviving spouse
1 9 remarries, the surviving spouse shall return the special
1 10 plates to the department and the department shall issue
1 11 regular registration plates to the surviving spouse.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 Current law allows a surviving spouse of a person who was
1 14 issued ex-prisoner of war motor vehicle registration plates to
1 15 continue to use the plates if the plates are registered in the
1 16 surviving spouse's name and applicable fees are paid. This
1 17 bill allows such a surviving spouse to apply for and use such
1 18 plates even if the surviving spouse has not continued to use
1 19 the plates originally issued to the ex-prisoner of war.
