1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 7E.8 SERVICES TO STATE
1 2 DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION – INDIRECT COST REIMBURSEMENTS.
1 3 A state department which provides services to the state
1 4 department of transportation shall not receive moneys from the
1 5 road use tax fund but shall request as part of the
1 6 department's annual budget an amount from the general fund of
1 7 the state to cover the expenses of those services.
1 8 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE AND APPLICABILITY DATE. This Act takes
1 9 effect July 1, 1997, and is applicable to all department
1 10 budget requests for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1998,
1 11 and subsequent fiscal years.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that state departments which provide
1 14 services to the state department of transportation shall not
1 15 be reimbursed for the cost of providing those services from
1 16 the road use tax fund but shall request an appropriation from
1 17 the general fund of the state to cover those costs.
1 18 Currently, departments such as the department of inspections
1 19 and appeals, the department of personnel, and the department
1 20 of management receive appropriations from the road use tax
1 21 fund or one of the fund's components to pay for services
1 22 provided to the state department of transportation.
1 23 The bill is applicable to budget requests for fiscal years
1 24 beginning in 1998.
