PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 321.124, subsection 3, unnumbered 1 2 paragraph 1, Code 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 The annual registrationfeefees for motor homes, except as 1 4 provided in subsection 4, and for 1992 and older model years 1 5 for multipurpose vehiclesisare as follows: 1 6 Sec. 2. Section 321.124, Code 1997, is amended by adding 1 7 the following new subsection: 1 8 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. If a motor home is placed in storage 1 9 for six or more months during a registration year, and is not 1 10 driven or moved upon a highway during the period of storage, 1 11 the annual registration fee shall be one-half of the amount 1 12 set for the motor home in subsection 3. In order to qualify 1 13 for the reduced registration fee, the owner of the motor home 1 14 shall file a notarized statement with the county treasurer 1 15 containing the period of time for which the motor home will be 1 16 placed in storage. The county treasurer shall issue a 1 17 sticker, which the owner shall place on the motor home's 1 18 registration plate, indicating that the registration is not 1 19 valid for six out of the twelve months of the registration 1 20 year. Driving or moving a motor home upon a highway during 1 21 the period of the year for which the registration is not valid 1 22 is punishable as a simple misdemeanor under section 321.17. 1 23 EXPLANATION 1 24 This bill allows the owner of a motor home to place the 1 25 motor home in storage for six or more months out of the 1 26 registration year and to pay only one-half of the annual 1 27 registration fee otherwise payable for registration of the 1 28 motor home. To qualify for the reduced fee, the owner must 1 29 file a notarized statement with the county treasurer 1 30 containing the period of time for which the motor home will be 1 31 placed in storage. The county treasurer will issue a sticker 1 32 to be placed on the registration plate indicating the six 1 33 months for which the registration is not valid. 1 34 Code section 321.17, which provides a simple misdemeanor 1 35 penalty for violating the registration provisions of Code 2 1 chapter 321, is made applicable to driving or moving a motor 2 2 home upon a highway during the portion of the year when the 2 3 registration is not valid. 2 4 LSB 3020HH 77 2 5 jm/jw/5
