  1  1    Section 1.  Section 403A.9, Code 1997, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    403A.9  CO-OPERATION COOPERATION BETWEEN MUNICIPALITIES AND
  1  4 NONPROFIT HOUSING CORPORATIONS.
  1  5    Any two or more municipalities A municipality may join or
  1  6 co-operate cooperate with one another municipality or a
  1  7 nonprofit housing corporation in the exercise of any or all of
  1  8 the powers conferred hereby in this chapter for the purpose of
  1  9 financing, planning, undertaking, constructing, or operating a
  1 10 housing project or projects.  
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12    Under the state municipal housing law, municipalities have
  1 13 authority to undertake housing projects which may involve
  1 14 eliminating slum areas and providing housing for low-income,
  1 15 lower income, and very low-income families and to issue bonds
  1 16 for these purposes.  The bill allows municipalities to
  1 17 cooperate with nonprofit housing corporations in accomplishing
  1 18 these goals.
