1 1 Section 1. Section 321.34, Code Supplement 1997, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 10A. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PLATES.
1 4 The owner of a motor vehicle subject to registration pursuant
1 5 to section 321.109, subsection 1, light delivery truck, panel
1 6 delivery truck, pickup, motor home, multipurpose vehicle, or
1 7 travel trailer who is a current member of a paid or volunteer
1 8 emergency medical services agency, may upon written
1 9 application to the department, order special registration
1 10 plates, designed by the department in cooperation with
1 11 representatives designated by the Iowa emergency medical
1 12 services association, which plates signify that the applicant
1 13 is a current member of a paid or volunteer emergency medical
1 14 services agency. The application shall be approved by the
1 15 department, in consultation with representatives designated by
1 16 the Iowa emergency medical services association, and the
1 17 special registration plates shall be issued to the applicant
1 18 in exchange for the registration plates previously issued to
1 19 the person. The fee for the special plates shall be twenty-
1 20 five dollars which shall be in addition to the regular annual
1 21 registration fee. The department shall validate the special
1 22 plates in the same manner as regular registration plates are
1 23 validated under this section at the regular annual
1 24 registration fee.
1 25 EXPLANATION
1 26 This bill authorizes the issuance of special emergency
1 27 medical services motor vehicle registration plates by the
1 28 state department of transportation in cooperation with the
1 29 Iowa emergency medical services association. The plates may
1 30 be issued to current members of a paid or volunteer emergency
1 31 medical services agency. A $25 fee is payable in addition to
1 32 the regular annual registration fee.
