  1  1    Section 1.  Section 272.9A, Code 1997, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    272.9A  ADMINISTRATIVE LICENSES.
  1  4    The board of educational examiners shall adopt rules
  1  5 relating to professional development programs for individuals
  1  6 licensed or certificated as administrators of schools after
  1  7 July 1, 1985.  Successful completion of a professional
  1  8 development program is required every five years before the
  1  9 license is renewed by the board.  In addition, the board shall
  1 10 adopt rules specifying that an administrator employed by a
  1 11 school district shall certify to the board that the
  1 12 administrator has taught in a classroom for a period of not
  1 13 less than two weeks every two years prior to the issuance of a
  1 14 license or the renewal of a license under this chapter.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill requires the state board of educational examiners
  1 17 to adopt rules specifying that public school administrators
  1 18 must teach in a classroom for at least two weeks every two
  1 19 years before the board will issue an administrative license or
  1 20 renewal.
