1 1 Section 1. Fifty percent of the funds appropriated from
1 2 the general fund of the state to the Iowa department of public
1 3 health for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997, and ending
1 4 June 30, 1998, for the training of emergency medical services
1 5 (EMS) personnel at the state, county, and local levels,
1 6 notwithstanding any contrary requirements of the
1 7 appropriation, shall be deposited into the emergency medical
1 8 services fund pursuant to section 135.25 and shall be used, on
1 9 a dollar-for-dollar matching basis, to assist counties in
1 10 purchasing emergency medical services equipment. In addition,
1 11 the department shall investigate new and innovative
1 12 alternative methods of emergency medical services equipment
1 13 acquisition.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill provides that the emergency medical services fund
1 16 established in Code section 135.25 shall receive additional
1 17 funding for the 1997-1998 fiscal year for the purpose of
1 18 emergency medical services equipment acquisition by counties.
1 19 The matching fund requirements of Code section 135.25 would
1 20 apply to the funding. The bill provides that fifty percent of
1 21 the funds appropriated to the Iowa department of public health
1 22 for emergency medical services training shall be deposited
1 23 into the fund for equipment acquisition. Additionally, the
1 24 department is instructed to investigate new and innovative
1 25 alternative methods of emergency medical services equipment
1 26 acquisition by counties.
