  1  4 RELATING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
  1  5    ADVISORY COUNCIL.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 249A.4, subsection 8, unnumbered
  1 10 paragraph 1, Code 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1 11    Shall advise and consult at least semiannually with a
  1 12 council composed of the presidents of the following
  1 13 organizations, or a president's representative who is a member
  1 14 of the organization represented by the president:  the Iowa
  1 15 medical society, the Iowa osteopathic medical association, the
  1 16 Iowa academy of family physicians, the Iowa physical therapy
  1 17 association, the Iowa state dental society, the Iowa state
  1 18 nurses association, the Iowa pharmacists association, the Iowa
  1 19 podiatry society, the Iowa optometric association, the
  1 20 community mental health centers association of Iowa, the Iowa
  1 21 psychological association, the association of Iowa hospital
  1 22 association hospitals and health systems, the Iowa association
  1 23 of rural health clinics, the Iowa osteopathic hospital
  1 24 association, opticians' association of Iowa, inc., the Iowa
  1 25 hearing aid society, the Iowa speech, language, and hearing
  1 26 association, the Iowa health care association, the Iowa
  1 27 association for home care, the Iowa council of health care
  1 28 centers, the Iowa physician assistant society, the Iowa
  1 29 association of nurse practitioners, the Iowa occupational
  1 30 therapy association, and the Iowa association of homes and
  1 31 services for the aging, the Iowa psychiatric nurse managers
  1 32 network, the arc of Iowa which was formerly known as the
  1 33 association for retarded citizens of Iowa, the alliance for
  1 34 the mentally ill of Iowa, Iowa state association of counties,
  1 35 and the Iowa governor's planning council for developmental
  2  1 disabilities, together with one person designated by the Iowa
  2  2 state board of chiropractic examiners; one state
  2  3 representative from each of the two major political parties
  2  4 appointed by the speaker of the house, one state senator from
  2  5 each of the two major political parties appointed by the
  2  6 president of the senate, after consultation with the majority
  2  7 leader and the minority leader of the senate, each for a term
  2  8 of two years; four public representatives, appointed by the
  2  9 governor for staggered terms of two years each, none of whom
  2 10 shall be members of, or practitioners of, or have a pecuniary
  2 11 interest in any of the professions or businesses represented
  2 12 by any of the several professional groups and associations
  2 13 specifically represented on the council under this subsection,
  2 14 and at least one of whom shall be a recipient of medical
  2 15 assistance; the director of public health, or a representative
  2 16 designated by the director; and the dean of the college of
  2 17 medicine, university of Iowa, or a representative designated
  2 18 by the dean.
