1 1 Section 1. Section 356.44, Code 1997, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 356.44 RULES OF SHERIFF.
1 4 The county sheriff shall formulate rules for the conduct
1 5 and behavior of county jail prisoners. These rules shall
1 6 include a provision prohibiting access by prisoners to any
1 7 television set which receives signals from a cable television
1 8 system or receives signals directly transmitted from a
1 9 satellite and may include provisions for county jail prisoners
1 10 to do all necessary cleaning and upkeep of cells,
1 11 compartments, dormitories and day rooms. Extra penalties may
1 12 be provided for intentional damage of county jail property.
1 13 Such rules and regulations shall be approved by a district
1 14 judge from the district in which the county jail is located.
1 15 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 356A.8 CABLE OR SATELLITE
1 16 TELEVISION ACCESS PROHIBITED.
1 17 Persons confined in a county detention facility shall not
1 18 have access to a television which receives signals from a
1 19 cable television system or receives signals directly
1 20 transmitted from a satellite.
1 21 Sec. 3. NEW SECTION. 904.517 CABLE OR SATELLITE
1 22 TELEVISION ACCESS PROHIBITED.
1 23 A corrections facility administered under this chapter
1 24 shall not provide inmates access to a television set which
1 25 receives signals from a cable television system or receives
1 26 signals directly transmitted from a satellite.
1 27 EXPLANATION
1 28 This bill provides that prisoners and inmates of jails and
1 29 corrections facilities are prohibited from access to
1 30 televisions which receive signals from a cable television
1 31 system or directly through a satellite receiver.
