  1  1    Section 1.  Section 362.5, subsection 11, Code 1997, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    11.  Contracts not otherwise permitted by this section for
  1  4 the purchase of goods or services by a city having a
  1  5 population of two thousand five hundred or less, which benefit
  1  6 a city officer or employee, if the purchases benefiting that
  1  7 officer or employee do not exceed a cumulative total purchase
  1  8 price of two five thousand five hundred dollars in a fiscal
  1  9 year.  
  1 10                           EXPLANATION
  1 11    This bill amends Code section 362.5 relating to the
  1 12 interest a city officer or employee in a city with a
  1 13 population of 2,500 or less may have in a contract or job of
  1 14 work or material or the profits to be furnished or performed
  1 15 for the officer's or employee's city.  The bill provides that
  1 16 a city officer or employee in a city with a population of
  1 17 2,500 or less may not benefit by more than a cumulative total
  1 18 of $5,000 in a fiscal year.
