PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 321.285, subsection 6, unnumbered 1 2 paragraph 1, Code 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 Notwithstanding any other speed restrictions, the speed 1 4 limitfor all vehicular trafficon fully controlled-access, 1 5 divided, multilaned highways including the national system of 1 6 interstate highways is as follows: 1 7 a. For cars, light delivery trucks, panel delivery trucks, 1 8 pickups, multipurpose vehicles, and motorcycles, seventy miles 1 9 per hour. 1 10 b. For all other vehicular traffic, sixty-five miles per 1 11 hour. 1 12 PARAGRAPH DIVIDED. The department may establish a speed 1 13 limit of sixty-five miles per hour on certain divided, 1 14 multilaned highways. However, the department or cities with 1 15 the approval of the department may establish a lower speed 1 16 limit upon such highways located within the corporate limits 1 17 of a city. For the purposes of this subsection, a fully 1 18 controlled-access highway is a highway that gives preference 1 19 to through traffic by providing access connections with 1 20 selected public roads only and by prohibiting crossings at 1 21 grade or direct private driveway connections. A minimum speed 1 22 may be established by the department on the highways referred 1 23 to in this subsection if warranted by engineering and traffic 1 24 investigations. 1 25 EXPLANATION 1 26 This bill increases the speed limit for interstate and 1 27 other fully controlled-access, divided, multilaned highways 1 28 from 65 to 70 miles per hour for cars, light delivery trucks, 1 29 panel delivery trucks, pickups, multipurpose vehicles, and 1 30 motorcycles.
