1 1 Section 1. Section 328.12, subsection 1, Code 1997, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. Participation in the commercial
1 4 air service marketing program shall be limited to airports
1 5 currently receiving scheduled commercial air service and
1 6 designated as level I airports in the Iowa aviation plan and
1 7 to airports providing commercial air service located within
1 8 five miles of the borders of the state of Iowa.
1 9 EXPLANATION
1 10 Currently the state department of transportation
1 11 administers the commercial air service marketing program which
1 12 is created under 761 IAC ch. 715, pursuant to Code section
1 13 328.12. The program provides funds for marketing,
1 14 advertising, and public relations programs to improve
1 15 scheduled air service and increase passenger traffic at Iowa's
1 16 commercial service airports. The funding is currently limited
1 17 to airports receiving commercial air service and designated as
1 18 level I airports in the Iowa aviation plan. This bill
1 19 requires that the state department of transportation provide
1 20 funding to airports providing commercial air service located
1 21 within five miles of the borders of the state of Iowa.
