1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 2, Code 1997, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. d. If the commission establishes an
1 4 additional deer hunting season to reduce the deer population
1 5 in one or more deer hunting zones, the department shall issue,
1 6 upon application, to the owner of a farm unit or to a member
1 7 of the owner's family, but not to both, and to the tenant or
1 8 to a member of the tenant's family, but not to both, a free
1 9 antlerless deer hunting license for each two hundred acres of
1 10 land within the farm unit. A free antlerless deer hunting
1 11 license is valid only for the farm unit for which the license
1 12 is issued. This paragraph is in addition to any free deer
1 13 hunting license issued under paragraph "b" and shall be
1 14 equivalent to the least restrictive license issued under
1 15 section 481A.38, except that the deer hunting license issued
1 16 under this paragraph is for antlerless deer only.
1 17 EXPLANATION
1 18 This bill provides that the owner and the tenant of a farm
1 19 unit may each receive an additional free deer hunting license
1 20 if the natural resource commission establishes an additional
1 21 deer hunting season in a deer hunting zone for deer population
1 22 control. The license is for antlerless deer only. The
1 23 licenses are issued for each 200-acre increment in a farm
1 24 unit. If an owner or a tenant does not apply for the license,
1 25 a member of each of their respective families is entitled to
1 26 receive a license. The deer hunting license is equivalent to
1 27 the least restrictive license issued except that the license
1 28 is limited to antlerless deer.
