1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 80.19A ROAD CONDITIONS REPORTING
1 2 SERVICE.
1 3 The commissioner of public safety shall provide information
1 4 to the public regarding weather-related conditions on the
1 5 public highways of the state. The service shall be provided
1 6 through toll-free telephone access and may be provided by
1 7 computer access.
1 8 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION. There is appropriated from the
1 9 general fund of the state to the department of public safety
1 10 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997, and ending June
1 11 30, 1998, $88,000, or so much thereof as is necessary, of
1 12 which, up to $25,000 shall be used for the establishment, and
1 13 up to $63,000 shall be used for the operation, of a weather-
1 14 related public highway condition reporting service.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill provides for the establishment of a service in
1 17 the department of public safety which will provide information
1 18 to the public regarding weather-related public highway
1 19 condition reports through a toll-free telephone number or
1 20 through computer access. The bill also appropriates $88,000
1 21 to the department from the general fund to establish and
1 22 operate the system for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997.
