1 1 Section 1. Section 169.4, Code 1997, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 16. A person from implanting a microchip
1 4 beneath an animal's skin for purposes of providing information
1 5 about the animal, including its identity.
1 6 EXPLANATION
1 7 Code chapter 169 regulates veterinary practice. According
1 8 to the chapter, a person is prohibited from practicing
1 9 veterinary medicine in the state, unless the person is a
1 10 licensed veterinarian or the holder of a valid temporary
1 11 permit issued by the board of veterinary medicine. The
1 12 chapter includes a number of exceptions. This bill adds to
1 13 those exceptions by providing that a license or permit is not
1 14 required for implanting a microchip beneath an animal's skin
1 15 in order to provide information about the animal, including
1 16 its identity.
