1 14 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the women who
1 15 served Iowa as state legislators through Iowa's
1 16 sesquicentennial year, 1996, and celebrating 100
1 17 years of women elected to state legislatures.
1 18 WHEREAS, twenty-five years before American women
1 19 had a constitutional right to vote, three women were
1 20 elected to serve as Colorado state legislators; and
1 21 WHEREAS, the National Foundation for Women
1 22 Legislators, Inc., the educational arm of the National
1 23 Order of Women Legislators and the oldest professional
1 24 association for women legislators in the country, is
1 25 coordinating state, regional, and national
1 26 celebrations to commemorate the 100th year of women
1 27 serving in state legislatures; and
1 28 WHEREAS, this centennial is being celebrated
1 29 throughout the United States to promote public
1 30 knowledge and awareness of women in state history; and
2 1 WHEREAS, the following women served through Iowa's
2 2 sesquicentennial year as members of the following Iowa
2 3 General Assemblies:

6 3 diligence and enthusiasm; and
6 4 WHEREAS, the knowledge, expertise, and wise
6 5 leadership of these women have provided guidance as
6 6 Iowa prepares to enter the 21st century; and
6 7 WHEREAS, these women deserve recognition for their
6 8 outstanding contributions to Iowa and for their
6 9 accomplishments as America's true "timeless pioneers";
6 10 NOW THEREFORE,
6 11 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
6 12 SENATE CONCURRING, That the General Assembly extends
6 13 its sincerest appreciation to all of the women who
6 14 have unselfishly served Iowa as state legislators
6 15 during the state's first 150 years of statehood, and
6 16 recognizes and joins in the 100th Year Celebration of
6 17 Women in State Legislatures.
6 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
6 19 House of Representatives forward copies of this
6 20 Resolution to the Commission on the Status of Women,
6 21 which shall make every reasonable effort to forward
6 22 copies of this Resolution to the legislators
6 23 identified in this Resolution, or to the families of
6 24 those legislators who are deceased, and to the
6 25 National Foundation for Women Legislators, Inc.
