1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION __
1 2 BY MILLAGE, MARTIN, BRADLEY,
1 3 VAN FOSSEN, and HOLMES
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution requesting that the Iowa
1 5 State Fair Board establish a policy ensuring that
1 6 Iowa businesses, associations, and organizations
1 7 are provided with ample opportunities to showcase
1 8 Iowa products and services during the Iowa State Fair.
1 9 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Fair is one of the oldest
1 10 agricultural and industrial expositions in the nation
1 11 having been established in 1854; and
1 12 WHEREAS, each August hundreds of thousands of
1 13 people from throughout the nation and especially the
1 14 midwest attend the Iowa State Fair which represents
1 15 the state's great celebration of and salute to the
1 16 best in Iowa agriculture, industry, commerce,
1 17 entertainment, and achievement; and
1 18 WHEREAS, more than 600 vendors, including
1 19 exhibitors, offer quality products and services and
1 20 information about their products and services to
1 21 persons attending the Iowa State Fair; and
1 22 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Fair offers a unique and
1 23 critical opportunity for businesses, organizations,
1 24 and associations to showcase products and services to
1 25 persons attracted to exhibits in order to make
1 26 purchases or receive informational materials for later
1 27 purchases; and
1 28 WHEREAS, a fundamental interest of this state is
1 29 the promotion, development, and expansion of business
1 30 opportunities involving agricultural, commercial, and
2 1 industrial products and services which originate in
2 2 Iowa; and
2 3 WHEREAS, Iowa businesses, organizations, and
2 4 associations offer products and services which are
2 5 unequaled in value and quality; NOW THEREFORE,
2 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
2 7 SENATE CONCURRING, That the Iowa State Fair Board
2 8 establish a policy which provides the greatest
2 9 possible priority to Iowa businesses, associations,
2 10 and organizations in the process of selecting vendors
2 11 to exhibit their products and services at the Iowa
2 12 State Fair; and
2 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
2 14 Concurrent Resolution be sent by the Chief Clerk of
2 15 the House of Representatives to the Secretary of the
2 16 Fair Board for presentation to and comment from
2 17 members of the Iowa State Fair board.
