  1  1    Amend Senate File 58, as amended, passed, and
  1  2 reprinted by the Senate, as follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 2, by inserting after line 5 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "The state shall establish an Iowa department of
  1  6 lexicography to assist in the administration of this
  1  7 section.  The department shall develop a list of
  1  8 acceptable words and phrases, and shall specifically
  1  9 identify words which can, and cannot, be used
  1 10 consistent with the designation of English as the
  1 11 common language of the state.  Department of
  1 12 lexicography personnel shall be authorized to conduct
  1 13 public hearings, pursuant to chapter 17A, and to
  1 14 gather information from experts in the field of
  1 15 lexicography to assist in the development of the
  1 16 list."
