1 2 #1. Page 1, by inserting before line 1 the
1 3 following:
1 4 "Section 1. Section 257.6, subsection 5, Code
1 5 1997, is amended to read as follows:
1 6 5. WEIGHTED ENROLLMENT. Weighted enrollment is
1 7 the budget enrollment plus the district's additional
1 8 enrollment because of special education calculated on
1 9 December 1 of the base year plus additional pupils
1 10 added due to the application of the supplementary
1 11 weighting plus the district's additional enrollment
1 12 for transportation costs based upon the sparsity
1 13 factor calculated under subsection 6.
1 14 Weighted enrollment for special education support
1 15 services costs is equal to the weighted enrollment
1 16 minus the additional pupils added due to the
1 17 application of the supplementary weighting.
1 18 Sec. 2. Section 257.6, Code 1997, is amended by
1 19 adding the following new subsection:
1 20 NEW SUBSECTION. 6. SPARSITY FACTOR. For budget
1 21 years beginning on or after July 1, 1998, a school
1 22 district having fewer than three and five-tenths
1 23 resident public school pupils per square mile on
1 24 December 1 of the base year shall receive additional
1 25 enrollment for transportation costs because of the
1 26 sparsity factor. This additional enrollment is equal
1 27 to one-tenth of the school district's actual
1 28 enrollment for the base year."
