  1  1    Amend House File 2539 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 36, by inserting after line 24 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec. ____.  PRIVATE INDUSTRY EMPLOYMENT OF INMATES
  1  5 STUDY.  The legislative council is requested to
  1  6 establish an interim study committee concerning
  1  7 private industry employment of inmates under the
  1  8 custody of the department of corrections.  The interim
  1  9 study shall include examination of the costs
  1 10 associated with permitting private industry to lease
  1 11 building space from the department of corrections for
  1 12 the employment of inmates, the economic impact of
  1 13 private industry employment, including the recoupment
  1 14 of inmate earnings, on the department of corrections,
  1 15 the benefits of private industry employment for
  1 16 inmates, and the effect of permitting private industry
  1 17 employment of inmates on private sector industry and
  1 18 employment."
  1 19    #2.  By renumbering as necessary.
