1 4 "Sec. ___. Section 483A.7, subsection 3, Code
1 5 1997, is amended to read as follows:
1 6 3. A nonresident wild turkey hunter is required to
1 7 have only a nonresident wild turkey hunting license
1 8 and a wildlife habitat stamp. The commission shall
1 9 annually limit to two thousand licenses the number of
1 10 nonresidents allowed to have wild turkey hunting
1 11 licenses. The number of nonresident wild turkey
1 12 hunting licenses shall be determined as provided in
1 13 section 481A.38. When issuing the wild turkey hunting
1 14 licenses, the department shall give preference to
1 15 nonresident applicants who own eighty acres or more of
1 16 land in this state. The commission shall allocate the
1 17 nonresident wild turkey hunting licenses issued among
1 18 the zones based on the populations of wild turkey. A
1 19 nonresident applying for a wild turkey hunting license
1 20 must exhibit proof of having successfully completed a
1 21 hunter safety and ethics education program as provided
1 22 in section 483A.27 or its equivalent as determined by
1 23 the department before the license is issued.
1 24 Sec. ___. Section 483A.8, subsection 3, Code 1997,
1 25 is amended to read as follows:
1 26 3. A nonresident deer hunter is required to have
1 27 only a nonresident deer license and a wildlife habitat
1 28 stamp. The commission shall annually limit to five
1 29 thousand licenses the number of nonresidents allowed
1 30 to have deer hunting licenses. The number of
1 31 nonresident deer hunting licenses shall be determined
1 32 as provided in section 481A.38. When issuing the deer
1 33 hunting licenses, the department shall give preference
1 34 to nonresident applicants who own eighty acres or more
1 35 of land in this state. The commission shall allocate
1 36 the nonresident deer hunting licenses issued among the
1 37 zones based on the populations of deer. However, a
1 38 nonresident applicant may request one or more hunting
1 39 zones, in order of preference, in which the applicant
1 40 wishes to hunt. If the request cannot be fulfilled,
1 41 the applicable fees shall be returned to the
1 42 applicant. A nonresident applying for a deer hunting
1 43 license must exhibit proof of having successfully
1 44 completed a hunter safety and ethics education program
1 45 as provided in section 483A.27 or its equivalent as
1 46 determined by the department before the license is
1 47 issued."

1 49 inserting the following: "An Act relating to the
1 50 hunting of wild turkeys and deer."
