1 1 Section 1. Section 80B.11, subsection 5, Code 1995, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 5. Minimum standards of physical, educational and moral
1 4 fitness which shall govern the recruitment, selection and
1 5 appointment of law enforcement officers. The rules shall
1 6 provide that an individual selected or appointed as a law
1 7 enforcement officer shall have corrected Snellen vision in
1 8 both eyes of 20/20 or better, regardless of the individual's
1 9 uncorrected vision.
1 10 EXPLANATION
1 11 This bill requires the director of the Iowa law enforcement
1 12 academy to promulgate rules that establish that an individual
1 13 selected as a law enforcement officer shall have corrected
1 14 Snellen vision in both eyes of 20/20 or better, and the rules
1 15 shall not provide for uncorrected vision. Currently, the
1 16 administrative rules establish a minimum standard for
1 17 uncorrected vision at 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/20.
