1 2 BY (PROPOSED COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS RESOLUTION
1 3 BY CHAIRPERSON MURPHY)
1 4 A Resolution honoring the service of Dr. Constantine
1 5 W. Curris as President of the University of
1 6 Northern Iowa.
1 7 WHEREAS, Dr. Constantine W. Curris is leaving the
1 8 University of Northern Iowa after having served as its
1 9 President since August 1983, to serve as President of Clemson
1 10 University; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Dr. Constantine "Deno" Curris has provided
1 12 valuable service to the University of Northern Iowa and all
1 13 Iowans as President of the University; and
1 14 WHEREAS, President Curris has provided national leadership
1 15 in the reform of teacher education; and
1 16 WHEREAS, President Curris has emphasized the development of
1 17 the college of business administration and other resources of
1 18 the University as part of a dynamic partnership to boost the
1 19 economic resurgence of Iowa by providing needed services to
1 20 Iowa communities and small businesses; and
1 21 WHEREAS, President Curris has placed renewed emphasis upon
1 22 undergraduate education and teaching excellence at the
1 23 University; and
1 24 WHEREAS, President Curris has expanded the international
1 25 studies experiences at the University to prepare students for
1 26 life in the twenty-first century; and
1 27 WHEREAS, President Curris has fostered a student-centered
1 28 philosophy at the University and has consistently sought to
1 29 make the university experience as accessible and affordable
1 30 for as many students as possible; and
1 31 WHEREAS, President Curris has taken an active role in
1 32 public policy issues while maintaining both institutional and
1 33 personal credibility; and
1 34 WHEREAS, President Curris, and his wife, Jo, have provided
1 35 valuable service to all Iowans, and especially to the
2 1 University of Northern Iowa community, during his tenure as
2 2 President of the University of Northern Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Iowa Senate
2 4 expresses the appreciation of all Iowans for the valued
2 5 service of Dr. Constantine Curris as he completes his tenure
2 6 as President of the University of Northern Iowa.
2 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the Senate
2 8 prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to Dr.
2 9 Constantine Curris and his wife, Jo.
