1 2 BY (PROPOSED COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY RESOLUTION BY
1 3 CHAIRPERSON GIANNETTO)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution requesting the legislative council to
1 5 establish a committee to study Iowa's domestic abuse law.
1 6 WHEREAS, the matter of domestic abuse continues to be a
1 7 significant threat to many Iowa citizens; and
1 8 WHEREAS, the state of Iowa recognizes the importance of
1 9 improving the response of state and local governments to
1 10 domestic abuse situations, particularly regarding the
1 11 protection of individuals who have suffered domestic abuse;
1 12 NOW THEREFORE,
1 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
1 14 CONCURRING, That the legislative council is requested to
1 15 establish a study committee to examine the domestic abuse Act,
1 16 chapter 236, particularly the effectiveness of current
1 17 measures to protect persons from domestic abuse under chapter
1 18 236, and also protective orders entered pursuant to marriage
1 19 dissolution proceedings and restraining orders under the
1 20 victim and witness protection Act and report its findings and
1 21 recommendations to the general assembly prior to the 1996
1 22 legislative session.
