PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 724.8, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 1 2 1995, is amended to read as follows: 1 3NoA person shall not be issued a professional or 1 4 nonprofessional permit to carry weapons unless all of the 1 5 following conditions are met: 1 6 Sec. 2. Section 724.8, Code 1995, is amended by adding the 1 7 following new subsection: 1 8 NEW SUBSECTION. 7. The person either is a citizen of the 1 9 United States or has been a legal resident of the United 1 10 States for at least five years and can document that fact in 1 11 order for an accurate criminal history check to be 1 12 accomplished. 1 13 Sec. 3. Section 724.15, subsection 1, Code 1995, is 1 14 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 1 15 NEW PARAGRAPH. g. The person either is a citizen of the 1 16 United States or has been a legal resident of the United 1 17 States for at least five years and can document that fact in 1 18 order for an accurate criminal history check to be 1 19 accomplished. 1 20 EXPLANATION 1 21 This bill provides that a person who is not a United States 1 22 citizen must be at least a five-year legal resident of the 1 23 United States and be able to provide support for that claim 1 24 when applying for a permit to acquire pistols or revolvers or 1 25 a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The bill provides that 1 26 the requirement is imposed in order for an accurate criminal 1 27 history check to be accomplished. 1 28 LSB 1898SC 76 1 29 mk/cf/24
