1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE
1 3 A Senate Resolution requesting the
1 4 Attorney General to investigate diesel fuel
1 5 prices.
1 6 WHEREAS, this state depends upon diesel fuel in
1 7 order to produce and transport goods, especially
1 8 agricultural commodities and products; and
1 9 WHEREAS, diesel fuel prices have increased in
1 10 recent months, placing a greater burden upon persons
1 11 operating motor vehicles that use diesel fuel; and
1 12 WHEREAS, according to the Department of Natural
1 13 Resources, the average price of self-service diesel
1 14 fuel for March was $1.21, which was one cent more than
1 15 in February; and
1 16 WHEREAS, the average price of diesel fuel is
1 17 expected to increase again in April; and
1 18 WHEREAS, during this same period the price for
1 19 diesel fuel has for the past several years increased
1 20 despite the decreased need to convert crude oil into
1 21 propane gas; NOW THEREFORE,
1 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Honorable
1 23 Tom Miller, Attorney General, investigate the repeated
1 24 increase in diesel fuel prices during this period,
1 25 including factors relating to supply and demand, as
1 26 well as possible collusion and price fixing by the
1 27 industry; and
1 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Department of
1 29 Natural Resources cooperate with the Attorney General,
1 30 as requested by the Attorney General, in order to
2 1 conduct this investigation; and
2 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
2 3 resolution be sent by the Secretary of the Senate to
2 4 the Honorable Tom Miller, Attorney General, and to the
2 5 Honorable Larry J. Wilson, Director of the Department
2 6 of Natural Resources.
