1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY BARTZ
1 3 A Senate Resolution advancing a system of values,
1 4 beliefs, and goals underscoring a smaller, more
1 5 effective government.
1 6 WHEREAS, fundamental questions frequently arise
1 7 regarding making the American dream of opportunity for
1 8 all a reality for those Americans willing to work for
1 9 it, preserving old and enduring values, and meeting
1 10 these challenges together as a united America; and
1 11 WHEREAS, it is widely believed that big government
1 12 does not have all the answers, that there is not a
1 13 program for every problem, and that a smaller, less
1 14 bureaucratic federal government in Washington, D.C.,
1 15 operating within its means is desirable; and
1 16 WHEREAS, it is also widely believed that a balance
1 17 must be struck between the former era of big
1 18 government and American citizens being left to fend
1 19 for themselves, and that to strike the balance a
1 20 united America must go forward to meet the challenges
1 21 facing the nation; NOW THEREFORE,
1 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That to be effective,
1 23 a new, smaller government must proceed in an old-
1 24 fashioned way by involving all citizens through state
1 25 and local governments, in the workplace, and in
1 26 religious, charitable, and civic associations, with a
1 27 goal to enable all people to make the most of their
1 28 own lives through stronger families, more educational
1 29 opportunities, economic security, safer streets, a
1 30 cleaner environment, and a safer world, and by asking
2 1 more of oneself, expecting more of each other, and
2 2 facing challenges together; and
2 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
2 4 Senate shall distribute copies of this resolution to
2 5 civic leaders and organizations, state and municipal
2 6 government offices and officials, and state and
2 7 private secondary schools and postsecondary colleges
2 8 and universities, as designated by the various
2 9 standing committees and individual legislators.
