1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY HALVORSON
1 3 A Senate resolution requesting that community colleges adopt
1 4 policies and follow practices which do not threaten family
1 5 farm agriculture in this state.
1 6 WHEREAS, family farm agriculture represents the
1 7 foundation of agricultural production in this nation,
1 8 ensuring an abundant supply of food and fiber for the
1 9 people of the United States; and
1 10 WHEREAS, Iowa is one of the leading agricultural
1 11 states in the nation, consistently ranking among the
1 12 leading producing regions of crops and livestock; and
1 13 WHEREAS, by assisting confinement feeding
1 14 operations, community colleges act to provide economic
1 15 advantages to those operations which increasingly
1 16 compete with traditional family farm operations and
1 17 the traditional family farm way of life; NOW
1 18 THEREFORE,
1 19 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That community
1 20 colleges adopt policies and follow practices which do
1 21 not threaten family farm agriculture in this state,
1 22 including by refraining from becoming a party to any
1 23 agreement which assists confinement feeding
1 24 operations; and
1 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
1 26 Senate send a copy of this resolution to the president
1 27 of each community college in this state.
