1 1 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of
1 2 the State of Iowa is proposed:
1 3 Section 3, of subdivision 2 entitled "School Funds and
1 4 School Lands", of Article IX of the Constitution of the State
1 5 of Iowa, is repealed.
1 6 Sec. 2. The foregoing amendment to the Constitution of the
1 7 State of Iowa is referred to the General Assembly to be chosen
1 8 at the next general election for members of the General
1 9 Assembly and the Secretary of State is directed to cause it to
1 10 be published for three consecutive months before the date of
1 11 that election as provided by law.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This joint resolution proposes an amendment to the
1 14 Constitution of the State of Iowa abolishing the perpetual
1 15 school support fund. The perpetual support fund was
1 16 established in the Constitution in 1846 for the support of
1 17 schools. The resolution, if adopted, would be referred to the
1 18 next General Assembly for adoption before being submitted to
1 19 the electorate for ratification.
