1 1 Section 1. Section 19A.9, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 25. For the establishment of a uniform
1 4 telephone answering and messaging policy for state agencies,
1 5 the executive branch, and the general assembly, including the
1 6 state board of regents and the state department of
1 7 transportation, which shall provide that a state employee
1 8 shall leave a message on the employee's telephone answering
1 9 and messaging system indicating when the employee will return
1 10 and be available to return a telephone call.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill provides that the personnel commission shall
1 13 adopt rules providing for the establishment of a uniform
1 14 telephone answering and messaging policy. The policy would
1 15 include a provision requiring state employees to indicate on
1 16 their telephone answering and messaging system when they will
1 17 return and be able to return a telephone call.
