1 1 Section 1. Section 321.166, subsection 2, Code 1995, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 2. Every registration plate or pair of plates shall
1 4 display a registration plate number which shall consist of
1 5 alphabetical or numerical characters or a combination thereof
1 6 and the name of this state, which may be abbreviated. Every
1 7 registration plate issued by the county treasurer, including
1 8 any plate issued pursuant to section 321.34, shall display the
1 9 name of the county except plates issued for truck tractors,
1 10 motorcycles, motorized bicycles, travel trailers, semitrailers
1 11 and trailers. The year of expiration or the date of
1 12 expiration shall be displayed on vehicle registration plates,
1 13 except plates issued under section 321.19. Special truck
1 14 registration plates shall display the word "special".
1 15 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY DATE. This Act applies only to new
1 16 registration plates issued to owners on or after January 1,
1 17 1997.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill requires that all special registration plates
1 20 authorized pursuant to section 321.34 and issued to owners of
1 21 motor vehicles on or after January 1, 1997, shall include on
1 22 the plate the name of the county where the vehicle is
1 23 registered.
