PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 480.1, subsection 10, Code 1995, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 10. "Underground facility" means an item of personal 1 4 property owned or leased by the operator which is buried or 1 5 placed below ground for use in connection with the storage or 1 6 conveyance of, or the provision of services supplying water, 1 7 sewage, electronic, telephonic, or telegraphic communications, 1 8 electric energy, hazardous liquids, or petroleum products 1 9 including natural gas or other substances, and includes, but 1 10 is not limited to, pipes, sewers, conduits, cables, valves, 1 11 lines, wires, manholes, and attachments tosuchthe property 1 12 but does not include sanitary sewer laterals, storm sewer 1 13 laterals, and water service lines providing service to 1 14 abutting private properties, and water service facilities of 1 15 rural water districts organized under chapter 357A or 504A. 1 16 EXPLANATION 1 17 This bill exempts rural water districts from being a member 1 18 of the statewide notification center established under chapter 1 19 480. Chapter 480 requires operators of underground facilities 1 20 to be notified by the center of plans to excavate and the 1 21 operators are assessed the costs of the notification.
