1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 321.253B METRIC SIGNS
1 2 RESTRICTED.
1 3 The department shall not place a sign relating to a speed
1 4 limit, distance, or measurement on a highway if the sign
1 5 establishes the speed limit, distance, or measurement solely
1 6 by using the metric system, unless specifically required by
1 7 federal law.
1 8 EXPLANATION
1 9 This bill prohibits the state department of transportation
1 10 from maintaining any highway sign that uses the metric system
1 11 as the exclusive method of measurement for speed or distance.
1 12 The bill provides that the restriction on using the metric
1 13 system on highway signs is subject to any contrary federal
1 14 requirement.
