1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY HANSEN
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution supporting the 185th Fighter
1 4 Wing of the Air National Guard of Iowa in its
1 5 peacekeeping patrols in the United Nations "No-Fly
1 6 Zone" over Iraq.
1 7 WHEREAS, the 185th Fighter Wing of the Air National
1 8 Guard of Iowa is home-based in Sioux City, Iowa; and
1 9 WHEREAS, the 185th Fighter Wing will be responsible
1 10 for patrols in F-16 fighter aircraft over the United
1 11 Nations "No-Fly Zone" north of the 36th parallel in
1 12 Iraq; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the 185th Fighter Wing has been expressly
1 14 chosen to serve its country in promoting and
1 15 protecting human rights in Iraq; and
1 16 WHEREAS, the 185th Fighter Wing is one of Iowa's
1 17 most decorated National Guard units having served the
1 18 United States previously in similar duty in 1993 in
1 19 "Operation Provide Comfort"; NOW THEREFORE,
1 20 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 21 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That all Iowans recognize
1 22 and appreciate the sacrifices of the Air National
1 23 Guard of Iowa men and women associated with the Iraqi
1 24 mission, honor and support them in the different
1 25 peacekeeping tasks ahead, and look forward to their
1 26 safe return.
1 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
1 28 Senate send a copy of this Resolution to Major General
1 29 Warren G. Lawson, Iowa National Guard, and Colonel
1 30 Dennis Swanstrom, 185th Fighter Wing, who will
2 1 distribute copies to the men and women of the 185th
2 2 Fighter Wing associated with the Iraqi peacekeeping
2 3 mission and to their closest family member.
