1 5 "Sec. 101. NEW SECTION. 266.39F HEALTHY
1 6 LIVESTOCK FOR IOWA INITIATIVE.
1 7 1. A healthy livestock for Iowa initiative is
1 8 established within the college of veterinary medicine
1 9 at Iowa state university of science and technology to
1 10 improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the
1 11 livestock industry in Iowa. The objectives of the
1 12 initiative shall include, but are not limited to, the
1 13 following:
1 14 a. Modernization of teaching programs to provide
1 15 veterinarians with specialized skills to service the
1 16 livestock industry.
1 17 b. Support for additional high-priority livestock
1 18 health research programs.
1 19 c. Support for preharvest food safety research
1 20 efforts to ensure safe and wholesome meat products.
1 21 d. Development and improved delivery of accurate
1 22 and timely diagnostic and other animal health
1 23 information to veterinary practitioners.
1 24 e. Expansion of technology transfer efforts to
1 25 Iowa's livestock producers and businesses.
1 26 2. "Livestock" for purposes of this section, shall
1 27 include, but is not limited to, cattle, sheep, swine,
1 28 llamas, alpacas, ostriches, rheas, emus, and poultry."
1 29 #2. By renumbering, relettering, and redesignating
1 30 as necessary.
