  1  1    Amend Senate File 2245 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 67, by inserting after line 5 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  Section 411.36, subsection 1, paragraph
  1  5 a, Code Supplement 1995, is amended to read as
  1  6 follows:
  1  7    a.  Two fire fighters from different participating
  1  8 cities, one of whom is an active member of the
  1  9 retirement system and one of whom is a retired member.
  1 10 The fire fighters shall be appointed by the governing
  1 11 body of the Iowa association of professional fire
  1 12 fighters selected pursuant to an election as provided
  1 13 in section 411.36A.
  1 14    Sec.    .  NEW SECTION.  411.36A  ELECTION TO BOARD
  1 15 – FIRE FIGHTERS.
  1 16    The fire fighters who are voting members of the
  1 17 board shall be elected by the active members of the
  1 18 system who are fire fighters.  The board shall adopt
  1 19 guidelines governing the election of the fire fighter
  1 20 members that shall provide a nomination procedure, the
  1 21 manner for each participating city fire department to
  1 22 conduct the election, and that ensures compliance with
  1 23 the requirements of state law."
  1 24    #2.  Page 69, by inserting after line 11 the
  1 25 following:
  1 26    "Sec.      BOARD OF TRUSTEES – TRANSITION.  The
  1 27 section of this Act that amends section 411.36 shall
  1 28 not apply to the members of the board selected
  1 29 pursuant to section 411.36, subsection 1, paragraph
  1 30 "a", prior to the effective date of this Act, and
  1 31 those members shall serve until the expiration of the
  1 32 terms to which they were appointed.  Upon the
  1 33 expiration of their terms, section 411.36, as amended
  1 34 by this Act, and section 411.36A shall apply to their
  1 35 successors."
  1 36    #3.  By renumbering as necessary.
