  1  1    Amend the amendment, S-3481, to House File 203, as
  1  2 passed by the House, as follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 2 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "#   .  Page 1, by inserting before line 1 the
  1  6 following:
  1  7    "Section 1.  Section 35A.2, subsection 2, Code
  1  8 1995, is amended to read as follows:
  1  9    2.  Five Six commissioners shall be honorably
  1 10 discharged members of the armed forces of the United
  1 11 States.  The American legion of Iowa, disabled
  1 12 American veterans department of Iowa, veterans of
  1 13 foreign wars department of Iowa, American veterans of
  1 14 World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, the Vietnam veterans
  1 15 of America, and the military order of the purple
  1 16 heart, through their department commanders, shall
  1 17 submit two names respectively from their organizations
  1 18 to the governor.  The governor shall appoint from each
  1 19 of the organizations one representative to serve as a
  1 20 member of the commission, unless the appointments
  1 21 would conflict with the bipartisan and gender balance
  1 22 provisions of sections 69.16 and 69.16A.  In addition,
  1 23 the governor shall appoint two members one member of
  1 24 the public, knowledgeable in the general field of
  1 25 veterans affairs, to serve on the commission.""
