1 1 Section 1. Section 153.14, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. Licensed dentists and dental
1 4 hygienists who are active or reserve members of the United
1 5 States military service when acting in the line of duty in
1 6 this state.
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill adds dentists and dental hygienists who are
1 9 acting in the line of duty as members of the United States
1 10 military service to the list of those individuals exempt from
1 11 licensing by the board of dental examiners.
1 12 BACKGROUND STATEMENT
1 13 SUBMITTED BY THE AGENCY
1 14 The Iowa national guard currently has federal funds
1 15 available to place dental practitioners in a national guard
1 16 training status to perform dental work under the auspices of a
1 17 national guardcare program for medically and dentally
1 18 underserved communities. Legislation is required to allow the
1 19 Iowa board of dental examiners to amend the administrative
1 20 code of Iowa to allow dentists and dental hygenists to
1 21 administer dental services in Iowa without first being
1 22 licensed by the state of Iowa.
