1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY GRUNDBERG and McCOY
1 3 A House Resolution relating to Iowans' concerns for
1 4 their children's education.
1 5 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa have become
1 6 increasingly concerned for the safety and well-being
1 7 of their children; and
1 8 WHEREAS, Iowans as part of a long-standing
1 9 tradition are committed to a quality education for all
1 10 children; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Iowans are willing to commit their time,
1 12 their energy, and their resources to making a better
1 13 Iowa for children; NOW THEREFORE,
1 14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE, That parents be
1 15 encouraged to spend time transporting their children
1 16 to school, to meet and talk with their children's
1 17 teacher about the children's performance in school, to
1 18 read to their children or encourage their children to
1 19 read, and to turn off the television at least three
1 20 hours a night.
1 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the community,
1 22 particularly the clergy and judges, be encouraged to
1 23 establish lines of communication about children in
1 24 need in order to avoid future problems with the legal
1 25 system and that the entire community, including the
1 26 clergy, become more active in nurturing children by
1 27 recognizing that it takes a whole village to raise a
1 28 child.
