1 1 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of
1 2 the State of Iowa is proposed:
1 3 Section 22 of Article IV of the Constitution of the State
1 4 of Iowa, as amended by amendment number 1 of the Amendments of
1 5 1972, is repealed and the following adopted in lieu thereof:
1 6 SECRETARY &endash; AUDITOR &endash; TREASURER. Sec. 22. A secretary
1 7 of state, an auditor of state, and a treasurer of state shall
1 8 be appointed by the governor, subject to confirmation by the
1 9 Senate, for a four-year term commencing on January 15
1 10 following the election of the governor, and they shall perform
1 11 such duties as may be provided by law.
1 12 Sec. 2. The foregoing amendment to the Constitution of the
1 13 State of Iowa is referred to the general assembly to be chosen
1 14 at the next general election for members of the general
1 15 assembly and the secretary of state is directed to cause the
1 16 same to be published for three consecutive months previous to
1 17 the date of that election as provided by law.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This proposed amendment to the Constitution of the State of
1 20 Iowa provides that the governor shall appoint the secretary of
1 21 state, treasurer of state, and auditor of state.
1 22 The resolution, if adopted, would be referred to the next
1 23 general assembly before being submitted to the electorate for
1 24 ratification.
