1 1 Section 1. Section 232.19, subsection 1, paragraph c, Code
1 2 1995, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 c. By a peace officer for the purpose of reuniting a child
1 4 with the child's family or removing the child to a shelter
1 5 care facility when the peace officer has reasonable grounds to
1 6 believe the child has run away from the child's parents,
1 7 guardian, or custodian. The child together with the child's
1 8 family shall participate in a brief counseling session, if
1 9 such services are available in the county, addressing the
1 10 reasons why the child has run away. The counseling may occur
1 11 at a shelter care facility or another location.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that a juvenile, who is taken into
1 14 custody for being a runaway, and the juvenile's family shall
1 15 participate in a brief counseling session at a shelter care
1 16 facility or otherwise if counseling services are available in
1 17 the county. The counseling shall address the reasons why the
1 18 juvenile ran away from the juvenile's family.
