1 1 Section 1. Section 481A.48, Code 1995, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. The commission shall establish
1 4 pistol or revolver seasons for hunting deer to coincide with
1 5 the muzzleloader seasons. Any pistol or revolver firing
1 6 centerfire ammunition propelling an expanding-type bullet is
1 7 legal for hunting deer during the pistol or revolver seasons.
1 8 The possession of a revolver or pistol which does not fire
1 9 centerfire ammunition propelling an expanding-type bullet or a
1 10 self-loading pistol or revolver having a capacity of more than
1 11 eleven cartridges in its magazine and chamber combined is
1 12 prohibited while hunting deer.
1 13 Sec. 2. Section 805.8, subsection 5, paragraph h, Code
1 14 Supplement 1995, is amended by adding the following new
1 15 subparagraph:
1 16 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH. (5) Possession of a prohibited pistol
1 17 or revolver while hunting deer, the scheduled fine is one
1 18 hundred dollars.
1 19 EXPLANATION
1 20 The bill directs the natural resource commission to
1 21 establish pistol or revolver seasons for deer hunting. The
1 22 seasons are to coincide with the muzzleloader seasons. The
1 23 pistols or revolvers must fire centerfire ammunition
1 24 propelling an expanding-type bullet. The possession of a
1 25 self-loading pistol or revolver having a capacity of more than
1 26 11 cartridges in its magazine and chamber combined is
1 27 prohibited while hunting deer.
1 28 A scheduled fine of $100 is provided for hunters using
1 29 prohibited types of pistols or revolvers.
