  1  1    Section 1.  Section 598.21, subsection 3, paragraph f, Code
  1  2 Supplement 1995, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    f.  The feasibility of the party seeking maintenance
  1  4 becoming self-supporting at a standard of living reasonably
  1  5 comparable to that enjoyed during the marriage, and the length
  1  6 of time necessary to achieve this goal that is equitable under
  1  7 the circumstances of the case.  
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9    This bill amends one of the factors to be considered by the
  1 10 court in awarding support payments to either party to judgment
  1 11 of annulment, dissolution, or separate maintenance.  The
  1 12 factor relating to self-support of the party currently takes
  1 13 into consideration the standard of living comparable to that
  1 14 enjoyed during the marriage and also takes into account the
  1 15 period of time necessary to achieve the goal.  The new
  1 16 language would only allow consideration of a standard of
  1 17 living which is equitable given the circumstances of the
  1 18 individual case.
