1 1 Section 1. Section 147.1, subsection 5, Code Supplement
1 2 1995, is amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. f. A health care entity, including but not
1 4 limited to a group medical practice, that provides health care
1 5 services and follows a formal peer review process for the
1 6 purpose of furthering quality health care.
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill adds health care entities engaged in providing
1 9 health care services, including group medical practices, to
1 10 the list of recognized health care peer review committees
1 11 established in Iowa Code section 147.1, subsection 5.
1 12 Currently, this list includes a professional society or
1 13 organization approved to conduct peer review by a professional
1 14 society, the medical staff and board of trustees of a
1 15 hospital, or an examining board. Pursuant to section 147.135,
1 16 a health care entity serving as a health care peer review
1 17 committee will be extended civil immunity for peer review
1 18 activities.
